We had an open bar last night at Pete's Tavern next door to celebrate the launch of Current.com (which, BTW, go rockin' early reviews).

The email from Joel arrives at 2:22am: Al has won the Nobel Peace Prize, along with the IPCC. Outside Current, "the media" is hitting on people as they come in. Funny thing is it's raining today and they don't want to stand out on the sidewalk!
Of course I use this opportunity to post a recent photo of me and the Boss.

You know that stuff they put in soaps that kills germs? It will kill you, according to an interview in the otherwise rockin' podcast "This Week In Science".
Trying to live on science alone.

The Munros, a British couple, like to climb mountains in the nude, then post their pictures on their website. Oddly enough, when people started going to their site to look, they got shy and took it down.
Personally, I blame Google Current.
If you must, the site has been archived.

"A few moments ago, I finished a very pleasant task of signing over 300 checks, one for each member of our Current team. Al and I are distributing these “Emmy checks” as a token of the Company’s appreciation for everything each and every one of you has done to make Current the Emmy award-winning network that it is today. Every staff member who has been with us for one year or more will be receiving a check in the amount of $1000. And every staff member who has been with Current for less than one year will be receiving a check for $500."

So I sent this package from San Francisco to Oakland, across the Bay. After leaving San Francisco, it's first stop was Oakland. Trip over? No. It then boarded a plane for Memphis, Tenn where it sat for 4 hours where it put on a plane for, you guessed it, Oakland!

When I was at CNN, our blooper reel ran hours long. This is full of classics including CNN President Reese Schoenfeld voicing his displeasure...on the air.

There is a fair amount of dissin' going on about MySpace Tom not knowing how to pronounce Al and Joel's name. I'm thinking I'd rehearse before going on national TV. Actually, I was amused at how he was introduced..."all they way from his office in Los Angeles". What, 5 miles away? I guess it's true, MySpace users never leave their house.

We're getting a chance to have our picture taken with it next week. In the meantime, I took this cell phone photo.
I told Joel we need lifesized cardboard cutouts of him and Al for the photoshoot.
Al said that following the Emmy Awards, the term "Current TV" was the most searched for term on Google, world-wide. Which just means computer literate people have no idea who we are!

Kinga hosted a great pod about the Emmy's that I'd love to post here, but I'm not sure doing so gives Google ownership of the work!
So, I'll have to send you here. Or, you just watch Current...
BTW, in the previous post, I mentioned a jib operator who worked until 4am doing this pod. Watch the pod and say hi to Kevin, the cameraman in the limo.

The stage rolled it first shot today about 9am. It's 7:30pm and they're still at it. These guys work too hard. The jib operator worked until 4am this morning working on a pod about the Emmy's... then he came back in at 8:30am and is still operating his camera.
Not a lot of talk about the Emmy win, at least here in LA. Nobody seems to have time! At lunch, we got a briefing on the new web site Al announced last night to a world wide audience. For almost a year, people been working secretly in the basement of the Current SF Headquarters, designing and coding the site. A few months ago, the site was sent out as an inside-the-building-only beta site, with prizes given out for contributing. I won the first two prizes, the biggest being a $50 gift card. The prizes have since gotten quite a bit larger. Can you say XBox?
This site, after it's all coded out, will be quite different then anything out there. Not with snazzy Web 2.0 graphics, but with the content and how it relates to the rest of Current.
And also with some snazzy Web 2.0 graphics.

It never seems to stop. We are two years old, we are already on every major cable and satellite distributor in the US, we also have a second channel in the UK and Ireland (yes, a second channel, not just the US channel rebroadcasted) and now we just won our first Emmy Award.
And we still have major things in the skunk works (the next one coming out very soon).
What a ride.

Post one. Lets see how this goes. I'm trying Blogger for the first time. I'm curious to see how it goes. I was hoping the new iWeb would work the way I wanted, but it doesn't seem to be the case. so...
Let the experiment begin. Look to see a flurry of worthless posts while I play with the new site.
